Start with five downcards
Common Five-Card Draw uses a button and blinds. Each player receives five downcards before the first betting round. A draw is followed by the second betting round and, if needed, showdown.
Keep or replace?
On your draw, you may keep every card or discard selected cards and take the same number of replacements. Check table rules for any limit on the number of cards exchanged in one draw and for reshuffling when the deck runs short.
Determining the result
Standard Five-Card Draw is a high game, using traditional rankings from royal flush to high card. There is no shared board; each player's final five cards are the hand compared.
Although 2-7 Draw also replaces cards, its goal is a low hand. Do not apply this page's high-hand rankings to it.
